The Staghorn coral, Acropora cervicornis is a ramified stony coral with cylindrical branches ranging from a few centimeters to over two meters in length and height. It is found in coral reef environments at a depth ranging from 0 to 30 m. The upper limit is defined by the wave forces and the lower limit is controlled by suspended sediments and light availability. This coral shows the fastest growth of all known fringed corals, with branches growing in length of 10-20 cm per year. This was one of the most important corals in terms of contribution to the growth of reefs and the habitat of fishing.
