In this video made this summer in an area where we have been diving for years, between 35 and 39 meters deep, we met the Brown meagre, Sciaena umbra,, are extremely social and above all territorial fish. This means that they live in groups, that is with specimens of the same species and often with different ages; and that when they choose a territory, they “inhabit” it until they are disturbed, or the conditions of their habitat change.

In this area this species has been present for more than 30 years, we know from divers and fishermen that Corvines are present practically all year round and I myself went back to dive this summer to see if they were actually still there.
The last time I maked a dive in this area was about 15 years ago. And also this year after having explored two or three holes (about 20-30 meters) I managed to find them. Unfortunately, too much noise, too many vibrations in the water, and air bubbles, frightened these fish that ran away almost immediately at the sight of myself. As you can see from the video, Brown meagre let itself get close enough and reappeared a few moments later to check the presence of the diver, and then disappeared into the blue.

As I wrote in other articles, the Brown meagre is one of the most beautiful fish in the Mediterranean Sea, these fish if they are not frightened, they let themselves be approached by showing off all the colors of their livery ranging from gold, to blue, to turquoise, and above all the their elegance. Sometimes they seem almost suspended in the blue and their slow movements make us appreciate their beauty even for several minutes. Unfortunately, the few clarity of the water and the low light conditions did not allow us to film the beauty of this species.
