Epinephelus ongus

Specklefin grouper,Epinephelus ongus, has a wide Indo-Pacific distribution. It is found in the east African coast from Somalia to South Africa and Madagascar. It is then found in the Seychelles and the Maldives and southern India and Sri Lanka along the coasts of Thailand and Malaysia east into the Pacific Ocean as far as New Caledonia and Tonga. They are found as far north as the Ryukyu islands and Ogasawara islands in southern Japan and south to Australia

The Greasy Grouper

Greasy Grouper, (Epinephelus tauvina), grows up to 75 cm in length. These fish have a wide, upward-facing mouth with rather thick lips. A group of black spots is visible on the body at the base of the rear of the dorsal fin.  Five vertical darker shaded bars may also be present on their bodies.

Mediterranean Cardinalfish

Mediterranean Cardinalfish, or the King of Mullets (Apogon imberbis), is a cute little orange-red fish that does not exceed 15 cm in length, the body is short and rather robust, with a wide head. The eyes and the mouth are particularly large while the teeth are small and pointed; the eyes are crossed by two lighter horizontal stripes.

Young Epinephelus Marginatus

We met this young Epinephelus marginatus along the cliff in front of Castiglioncello in the Mediterranean Sea, a famous seaside resort in the province of Livorno, during one of the scuba diving.

Cuckoo Wrasse

The cuckoo wrasse is a species of wrasse  native to the eastern Atlantic Ocean from Norway to Senegal, including the Azores and Madeira. It is also found in the Mediterranean Sea. They can be found amongst the algae  on rocky shores at depths from 2 to 200 m, though mostly between 40 and 80 m.

Parrotfishes

Parrotfishes are a group of marine species found in relatively shallow tropical and subtropical oceans around the world. With about 95 species, this group displays its largest species richness  in the Indo-Pacific.
